THE SCULPTURAL PROCESS:

________________________________________________________________

These sculptures are made with a unique clay body which incorporates
sawdust and paper. Each work is made of coils and is hollow.

Many pieces are colored with terra sigillatas, then multi-fired, using a
range of firings from cone 6 to cone 022. This surface treatment gives
the work a very pure finish as the sigillata is made from raw clay. The
colors will last as long as the piece itself; native Americans used terra
sigillatas to decorate their pottery for thousands of years.

Some pieces have a salt fired finish which enriches the natural tones of
the clay. Salt firing is one of the most sought after types of firings
because of the uncontrolled nature of the flame and the markings it
leaves on the piece. It gives a beautiful patina to the work, much like
that of human skin.
